Marisa Kenson has always followed her heart. From growing up in Burma and coming to the US at six years old, to breaking barriers in the fashion industry, Marisa has pursued a path for advocacy, change and creative breakthrough. She has done this all while representing the modern, multi faceted woman of today. She is living the American Dream! Marisa is married with 4 adult children and 8 grandkids.
The ultimate fashionista, Marisa Kenson emigrated from Burma to the U.S. in 1963, along with her father, a banker, and mother, a teacher. Marisa spent her early childhood in the Rangoon region, known for its rich culture. There she enjoyed a special bond with her maternal grandmother, who was the ultimate entrepreneur. Marisa learned from her grandmother the spirit of perseverance for a cause. After WWII, Marisa's Grandma Tilly began to teach the children in her neighborhood english, math and history. Years later this became the largest private school system in Burma, making them very wealthy. Her Grandma Tilly's other passion was creating fashion designs copied from the "American Sears Catalogue". Marisa became fascinated with the thought that a flat piece of fabric could become a garment.
Since then, Marisa has been a part of every seam, stich and trend the fashion industry has to offer. For more than 25 years, she has lent her bold sense of style and vast knowledge of the industry to help well-known retailers design, develop, merchandise and bring-to-market, national brands, such as Joe Boxer, Cherokee, Kathy Ireland, Lane Bryant, Disney, Kohl's Exhilaration and many more. Marisalearned that it was a gratifying and humbling experience to dress "mass America" through the largest chain stores like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target and more. Marisa's dedication and passion for fashion has contributed to clothing sales beyond the $1 billion mark.
In 2006, Marisa decided to make her personal mark on the apparel world, developing designs under her own namesake that made every woman feel beautiful. Realizing that selling clothes, actually meant selling confidence, she aimed her talents at outfitting women with clothes that brought out the best in them. The flattering and forgiving signature piece of the Marisa Kenson Collection, the patent pending, "Invisible Belt Dress," is a favorite among celebrities such as "Roar" songstress, Katy Perry, former Pussy Cat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, the multi-talented singer and actress, Aubrey O'Day, dancer, Cheryl Burke, and reality TV star, Vicki Gunvalson from "The Real Housewives of Orange County".
In 2010, as the fashion industry faced many challenges, Marisa began to find a solution to "disrupt" the industry, by changing its method of distribution. This was a long standing problem that no one seemed to be able to solve. Marisa collaborated to launch the online social selling platform MKCollab.com to distribute her brand "Marisa Kenson Collection," in this method of distribution. In August of 2016, armed with the power of person to person selling, along with the knowledge that "customers" make the best salespeople, Marisa founded the MKC Platform. She has re-defined retail as we have know it, and set the precedence for "The New Retailer"........You, the customer.
